Ian Macleod Distillers, has launched a new Limited Edition Pomerol Finish of its award winning Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, The Six Isles.

Finished in the finest French oak Pomerol wine casks, the Limited Edition Six Isles brings a new dimension and depth to the original Blended Single Malt Scotch Whisky, enhancing its rich, peaty and honeyed flavours with spicy, red fruit notes.

Described as having a smoky, spicy nose with notes of strawberries and wine gums, the fruity, peaty body of the Pomerol Finish brings in herbal and chocolate undertones before a fresh, salty and minty finish.

Masterfully blending six full-bodied Single Malts from each of Scotland's whisky producing islands of Islay, Jura, Skye, Mull, Orkney and Arran, The Six Isles is unique. Bringing together every distinctive style and flavour of each island, from the smoky peat from Islay to the soft, heathery and iodine notes of the Orcadian malt, The Six Isles is as a sensory voyage through the malt whiskies of the islands of Scotland.

Taking its lead from original Pomerol wine casks, the tube and bottle label of the New Limited Edition Six Isles is an eye-catching deep red with embossed gold lettering, reflecting the high quality of the Island Blended Malt's heritage.

Scotland's whisky sales are expected to take an unexpected boost with the launch of a special malt by one of the UK's top music festivals.

The Hebridean Celtic Festival in Stornoway (14th-17th July) is now in its 15th year and attracts visitors from around the world, including countries such as Germany, Australia, Canada and the USA. To mark the special anniversary milestone it has joined with Duncan Taylor, the 2009 Independent Bottler of the Year, to present its festival whisky.

Called 'Spiorad na Fèis' (Spirit of the Festival), the single malt whisky is distilled by Aberlour and will be on sale from £44 per 70cl bottle. A limited edition minature version will also be exclusively available from the festival shop in Stornoway at £4.85.

The new whisky has also been supported by leading Scottish group Runrig, one of the festival's first Hall of Fame members. Calum Macdonald helped a local tasting panel select the malt from a choice of three.

Festival Director, Caroline MacLennan, said: "We wanted to provide something for our many visitors to enjoy, a special memento of our 15th anniversary. We know that it will go down well with those who enjoy a good whisky. With its Gaelic name and excellent taste, those who buy it will be getting a unique reminder of the fun times to be had at the festival.

"We are grateful to Duncan Taylor for their advice and guidance in putting 'Spiorad na Fèis' on the shelves."

Euan Shand, Managing Director for Duncan Taylor Co Ltd: "We are delighted to be associated with the success of the 15th HebCelt festival. The aroma, flavour and full body of this unique bottling will evoke great memories with every dram, long after the festival is over. The impressive line up is on the back label, so this whisky is the perfect souvenir to reminisce with in months to come."

The Aberlour was specially selected for the bottling and will be left completely natural. Bottled at 46% abv, it is a full bodied Speyside, offering a honeyed sweetness and rich fruits on the nose and palate, typical of this distillery. All the colour is from the cask during its 15 year maturation. This is a unique bottling, limited to the celebration of the HebCelt anniversary.

Chivas Brothers Launches Scotch Age Awareness Campaign

Even amongst casual celebrants, most consumers know that - amongst myriad other factors - an older whisky is generally a better one. In fact, in a recent market study, Chivas Brothers found that some 94% of consumers knew that. But far fewer - only 10% - knew that the age stated on a bottle of scotch indicates the youngest whisky in the bottle, not the average age (48% of those polled) or the oldest (35%).

Based on its findings, Chivas Brothers is undertaking a new awareness campaign to highlight the significance of age statements in scotch whisky. The Chivas group - part of Pernod Ricard, one of the largest liquor companies in the world - is among the world's foremost scotch distillers, encompassing such blend brands as Chivas Regal, Ballantine's and Royal Salute as well as a range of single malts including The Glenlivet, Abelour, Longmorn, Strathisla, Scapa and Tormore.

Most (if not all) of these labels feature age statements, and a range of marketing initiatives will aim to educated consumers as to their importance.

Man kan da håbe at den næste pressemeddelse indeholder følgende : "...a range of marketing initiatives will aim to educate consumers to the importance of cask policies, caramel colouring and chillfiltration..."

Most would scoff at the notion that Ian Logan's position is considered a ‘job'. As brand Ambassador for Chivas Brothers, Ian is responsible for traveling the world promoting the good name of his company, while educating admirers and sharing the occasional dram of the whiskies he represents. We should qualify that "“ some of the world's most beloved whiskies, which includes that much cherished single malt, the Glenlivet. In fact, Ian is also the curator of the Glenlivet whisky school, where the curriculum is devoted to all aspects of scotch whisky making, such as production techniques and, yet, the aspects of tasting. Ah, the price this man has to pay for upholding a company's reputation and furthering the art of diplomacy.
Kilde: Bestofwhisky

Kilde: Whiskyfun

Highland Park 50 yo 1960/2010 (44.8%, OB, 275 bottles) Too bad I didn't get this one for my birthday, it's just as ol"¦ young as yours truly. It's a vatting of five casks (I believe it was done some time ago and further aged in a single cask, hence the 275 bottles) and it retails for £10,500. According to Harrods' (quote): ‘Inspired by the elemental forces of Orkney and designed by renowned jewellery designer Maeve Gillies of MaeVona, New York, each of the 275 bottles produced is crafted by hand from sterling silver.' And Harrods to add: ‘Regrettably, this product is non-returnable and non-exportable.' Non-exportable? Missiles or cluster bombs are exportable, and this baby isn't? This is a strange world"¦ Or maybe does someone want to avoid paralleling?
Colour: mahogany. Nose: why am I not Steve Jobs or the Sultan of Brunei? As expected, this is quite stunning, rather drier and more mentholated and resinous than other very old HPs that I could already try. When I write ‘resinous', I mean ‘good pine resin', not what one can find in some fairly extreme young woodbombs. In short, no varnishy resin if you see what I mean. What's quite striking is that it's all rather medicinal at very first nosing, and rather closer to some old Islayers. Quite some camphor. As for the way it unfolds after that, it's all rather epic I must say. At times wonderfully fruity (passion fruits and mango compote), sometimes waxy and ‘polished' (furniture polish, sandalwood, humidor, tobacco), then we're back on mint and camphor, then kumquats, then a magnificent spiciness (a precious mix), then roasted nuts (cashews, coffee beans)"¦ It's just endless. The complexity is amazing yet it's all very coherent and sort of compact, as it does not go into several directions at the same time. As I sometimes say, it's a movie-whisky, not a picture-whisky. Mouth: sure it shows its age a bit more than on the nose and sure it's a tad too ‘concentrated' (a little bitter oak, strong tea, strong liquorice) but I wouldn't say that's a problem, you just have to remember this is a 50yo whisky and respect it. Many spices, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, then bitter almonds, bitters, walnuts, orange zests"¦ It's also a tad artichoky at times (liqueur)"¦ The background is fruitier, on more oranges and kumquats (crystallised). Finish: long, liquoricy and more herbal. Comments: right. The nose is absolutely fabulous in my opinion, while the palate is very, very nice but I think it's maybe a tad woody and spicy. What's sure is that it's really high-end malt whisky and that no wealthy British resident will be disappointed. Remember, you can't export it, at least if you buy it from Harrods' ;-) . SGP:372 "“ 91 points (95 nose, 87 palate).

Amrut Launches the Limited-Edition Kadhambam Malt

Indian whisky distiller Amrut has been making a name for itself with its creative experimentation with different wood finishes. Just a couple of weeks ago we reported on their Intermediate Sherry finish, now the Bangalore-based distillery has announced the launch of its limited-edition Kadhambam malt.

Taking its name from the Tamil word for "mixture" (Tamil being one of the languages spoken on the subcontinent), Kadhambam is first aged in Oloroso sherry butts and then Blue Brandy and rum casks from the distillery's own stock for an intriguingly complex flavor.

Only 234 bottles of the malt will be offered, launched at the Potstill Festival in Amersfoort, Netherlands, and distributed exclusively by Dutch tobacconist and spirits distributor Van Wees Holland.

The evolution of a whiskyfun reader :- )

Tja...
