Director Ken Loach, best known for gritty social realist films, has completed comedy-drama "The Angels' Share", based around the life of a rough young man who finds a new meaning to his life after a visit to a distillery.

After narowly escaping a jail sentence central character Robbie vows to give his newborn son a better chance at life than he ever had, but he and his social misfit friends seem unable to find work. Discovering a passion and a nose for whisky, and tempted by the prices fetched by rare malts, Robbie gathers his friends and sets about starting up his own distillery.

"The Angels' Share" is debuting at this years Cannes Film Festival, where it has been selected to compete for the prestigious Palme d'Or prize. It will be released worldwide later on in the year.
